I beg to differ. From what I’ve seen and experienced, when someone knows they’ve wronged you, they often don’t become distant right away. Instead, they suddenly become sweeter, more attentive, more available, and more caring. They start showing up in all the ways you’ve been asking them to for the longest time, almost as if they’re trying to compensate for something.
Then, when you finally bring up your concerns, express how you feel, or uncover something they hoped would remain hidden, the conversation somehow shifts. Instead of addressing what they did, they focus on how hurt they are by your reaction. Before you know it, you’re defending yourself, questioning your feelings, and even apologizing to the very person who caused the problem.
That’s why sudden kindness isn’t always a sign of genuine change. Sometimes it’s remorse, sometimes it’s guilt, and sometimes it’s a way of maintaining control over the narrative.
