@abdimarihotmarbun: Saint Rosalia lived and died in obscurity-but centuries later, her name became inseparable from one of the most extraordinary events in the history of Palermo. Born into a noble Sicilian family in the twelfth century, Rosalia rejected wealth and comfort to live as a hermit on Mount Pellegrino, dedicating herself to God through solitude, prayer, and penance. Then, in 1624, plague devastated Palermo. According to tradition, Rosalia's relics were discovered in a cave on the mountain where she had lived. They were carried solemnly through the streets of the suffering city-and the plague subsequently came to an end. From that time forward, the people of Palermo honored Saint Rosalia as their beloved patroness and protectress. Her remarkable story reminds us that a life completely hidden from the world is never hidden from God. Prayer and sacrifice offered in secret can bear fruit long after we are gone.
