I think they need it shorter to engage people at the end and once you get to the end the author knows u must like the book so they ram more in because they know you will read it

Probably underestimated everything they needed to wrap up, some publishers give you limits I think too on series. So they’ll sign you for a certain amount of books and you can’t go over or under it

probably because creating a new story often begins quite empty as you are still planning everything however once events have played out and you understand your own world and story ideas pile up much faster and cumulatively add up

personally i think they have a lot of ideas to the end of their story and not a lot for the introduction like if you try to make a story you might have a really good ending especially if its a good story so they make the last volumes long because of that so they can put all the ending ideas they had
