Absurdism has good writing too #mediatok #meaningoflife #absurdism #nihilism #essentialism The concept of absurdism stands as one of the most liberating and starkly honest philosophies of the modern era. Born out of the existential dread of the 20th century, it addresses a fundamental human crisis: our deeply ingrained desire for inherent meaning, purpose, and order, contrasted against a cold, silent, and chaotic universe that offers none. Rather than falling into the trap of despair or fleeing into the illusions of cosmic reassurance, absurdism demands that we look directly into this void and choose to live anyway. To understand absurdism, one must first understand what the "absurd" actually is. In everyday language, absurd means silly or ridiculous. In philosophy, however, the Absurd is a specific, relational concept. It is not the universe itself that is absurd, nor is it the human being. Instead, the Absurd is born out of the collision between the human mind's desperate search for meaning and the cold, unyielding silence of the universe. We are creatures wired for narrative. We want our suffering to have a point, our triumphs to be recorded in some cosmic ledger, and our lives to follow a grand blueprint—whether dictated by a deity, fate, or the laws of historical progress. Absurdism states plainly that no such blueprint exists. When we cry out to the night sky asking "Why?", the universe responds with absolute nothingness. This friction—this exact point of impact between our desire for order and cosmic chaos—is the Absurd. While roots of this thought exist in the works of Søren Kierkegaard, it was the French-Algerian philosopher Albert Camus who fully articulated absurdism in his landmark 1942 essay, The Myth of Sisyphus. Camus argued that once a person awakens to the reality of the Absurd, they are faced with an immediate crisis. The illusion of a structured life shatters, and they must decide how to respond. Camus claimed there are only three ways to resolve the paradox: First is physical suicide. If life has no inherent meaning, one might conclude it is not worth living. Camus fiercely rejected this option. He argued that ending one's life does not solve the problem of the Absurd; rather, it is a cowardly surrender that eliminates the human side of the equation, thereby destroying the very confrontation that defines our existence. Second is philosophical suicide, which Camus described as a leap of faith. This occurs when a person cannot bear the weight of the void and invents a meaning to fill it. Turning to traditional religion, adopting rigid political dogmas, or believing in an ultimate cosmic justice are all forms of philosophical suicide. To Camus, this is an act of intellectual dishonesty. It is a retreat into a comfortable delusion, a way of killing the intellect to escape the anxiety of freedom. The third and only acceptable path, according to Camus, is acceptance and revolt. To live an absurdist life is to accept the meaningless nature of the universe without ever giving up the fight. Camus used the mythological figure of Sisyphus as the ultimate archetype of the absurd hero. Condemned by the Greek gods to roll a massive boulder up a mountain, only to watch it roll back down to the bottom for all eternity, Sisyphus faces a punishment of absolute pointlessness. His labor yields no progress, no reward, and no end.Yet, Camus declared that "one must imagine Sisyphus happy." Why? Because when Sisyphus walks back down the mountain to retrieve his rock, he is fully conscious of his wretched fate. In that moment of complete awareness, he owns his destiny. By choosing to walk down and push the rock again, despite knowing it matters not at all to the cosmos, his act becomes a supreme form of rebellion. He creates his own momentum. This rebellion births a radical, terrifying form of freedom. When you accept that there is no divine plan, no objective morality written in the stars, and no pre-assigned destiny, the chains of c
