The problem is we have old boomer management that doesn't live in the real world anymore. They believe in the "what i say goes" mentality but if that's the way they run a buinsess they can't be surprised when others say "im out"

You are 100% correct. I’m a warehouse manager, and I’m the same way with my employees. As long as they’re getting their work done, I don’t give a shit if they’re on their phones. Once it starts affecting their work or productivity, then I’ll say something. The only thing I’m different about is talking on the phone during work hours, unless it’s an emergency. Other than that, I don’t micromanage people. Do your job, get the work done, and I’m good.

This is why my boss has the best crew at the plant I work at, as long as your job is getting done he does not care what you do while your waiting for the line to fuck up. Its also why when something messes up we hurry up and fix it so we can all sit back down and go back to our phones.

I work as a stocker at my local grocery store. we aren't supposed to have earbuds in which sucks but when I did I'd have it in one ear so I can hear customers or fellow employees needing something,plus it actually helps keep me focused and simply doing what needed to be done.

if our phone is in sight even if we arent near it or touching it we get written up and sent home but anyone in a lead position is exempt from that rule so they can be on their phone as much as they want

Depends on the job. If you're working in a restaurant for example, you shouldn't be on the phone non stop.
