I was molested by my grandfather. My parents “confronted him” and that was it. Never went to the authorities. I saw this man every Thanksgiving and Christmas. I’m so glad you did the right thing.

I have a similar story. My father abused my daughter and my mother knew about it and covered it up. Good for you to do the right thing. It’s an awful feeling of betrayal. Words can’t describe it. I as well sent my daughter’s monster to prison and he died there.

I really try not to speak for others in my comments. Having never been a victim of this kind of abuse, I hesitate to speak on behalf of victims. With that said, as a veteran teacher and mandated reporter with over 25 years of experience, I would like to say THANK YOU on behalf of your children and everyone else’s children for CHOOSING the CHILDREN in your case. People’s inability to do exactly what you did is the reason for the 1%. I know that there are many victims who would watch your story and can put themselves in the position of your child who brought you that phone. And your reaction to that child with that phone is the hope and wish that so many longed for but didn’t get. May your story heal the tiniest part of their inner child. May your story remind them that there are people who will choose to believe and protect children, no matter what it costs them. 🩵

I had my father sent to prison for the same reason, he got 6 years and was out in 3 years for good behaviour. It later came out he had done this for generations. The other victims all didn’t support me at the time, later tried to get their own justice, but the time frame of the offences stopped any further prison time.

My moms father abused her when she was a girl. Her mother didn’t believe her and disowned her. My mom suffered emotionally for the rest of her life. There is just nothing worse than this kind of abuse. It affects several generations. I am truly sorry.
