Two things: Trump told the Germans they were foolish to be doing deals with Russia, who was not their friend, snd they literally laughed in his face. Also, Trump wasn't the first to call out NATO's under-investment in its own defense. Every President going back to Clinton has pointed it out. So for 25-30 years they've treated defense as if it is a luxury thst only the US should worry about. Even after 2023, when they've all been hyperbolic about the Russian threat, they've still barely made any changes. It's pathetic.

all of those countries have militaries. they are all capable of defending and responding. if they get into a war, then we can react. I don't see foreign defense systems in the USA, why should WE be the ones to respond.
