@bernamaofficial: Haze conditions in Sarawak have become so severe that Serian recorded an Air Pollutant Index (API) of 518 as at 10am today, placing it in the “hazardous” category. Why has Sarawak been the most affected state? Part of the explanation lies across the border. Wildfire activity intensified across Kalimantan during August, producing plumes of smoke and fine particles that moved towards Sarawak. This visualisation from Fire Emissions Watch tracks the rise in wildfire emissions across Sumatra and Kalimantan from Aug 1 to Sept 2. The smoke and particles from these fires, shown as aerosols on the map, also spread over parts of Malaysia and the wider region. The most extensive plumes appeared during the second half of August. 🟠🟡 Orange and yellow show the amount of carbon released by fires each day. 🟣 The darker the purple, the more wildfire-related particles are present in the atmosphere. #Haze #Sarawak #Malaysia #Wildfires #GarasiBernama
