1. Buying things just because they’re on sale. I shop intentionally now. High-quality items that will last me for years to come that fit in with my wardrobe. 2. Keeping all my money in a chequing account. I keep one month’s worth of expenses in there and after that, it all gets moved to either my sinking funds or investments. 3. Feeling embarrassed talking about money. I obviously have no shame anymore 😅 but I realized that the more I talk about money, the less scary it feels. 4. Waiting for the “perfect time” to start investing. Look up “dollar-cost averaging” - that’s what I mainly do. I don’t care what’s going on in the stock market, I invest no matter what and consistently monthly. 5. Believing budgeting meant I could never have fun. I’ve been budgeting and tracking my spending for over 6 years and I can tell you I’ve never felt at more peace with where my money goes. Link in my bio if you’d like my template. 6. Buying cheap things for my home. Just like clothing, I buy quality pieces and am curating our pieces that will work as our lives evolve. It really feels like home when you get pieces you love. We buy some new, but we’ve also found amazing steals second-hand. 7. Assuming debt was “normal”. Growing up, this is what I knew. As I got older and became financially literate, I realized that relying on debt was not normal, and there are other ways. 8. Letting lifestyle inflation eat every raise. Now that I make more money, it just feels like I’m getting closer to financial freedom because I know I can invest more. Sure, I love nice bags and I’m eyeing a watch, but I’d rather wait until I’ve hit certain milestones to buy even though u can technically afford it now. It makes those purchases feel so much more special. #financialhabits #financialliteracy #Budgeting #livebelowyourmeans
