If only that were true. If good male role models existed there wouldn’t be a need for them.

I swear never seeing a healthy couple fight has made me think every argument means it’s not a healthy relationship… My parents always fought behind closed doors and I never knew they fought at all

It’s not the gender of the role models presents. It’s a balanced presence of positive masculine and feminine traits.

I never, ever saw my parents argue. Not sure that was healthy either as I didn't know how to in my own relationships 😞

I normally agree with you but this sounds redundant. The mother who found the child’s father will probably continue to find bad roll models. We all deserve a good father figure in my opinion. Dolly said her daddy was the best and I think that is how she found her feet so early and continued on for the rest of her life.

This is so true. I was so fortunate and even though my father cannot be here to model for my kids, he will get to through me.

I can’t agree more. A negative role model is worse. That’s why folks don’t stay together “for the kids” as often.

I agree with you 100%. and I'll be honest I've thought this many many times. My father left when I was a kid but he did have me for a few Summers as I was growing up and he was never a good role model. I truly thank the fact that I was raised by my mom solo. because I didn't get any of that toxic masculinity programming from my father. I was never forced to learn from a parental figure that men can't have emotions and stuff of that sort

yes this, my husband said his parents never argued once and I said that's impossible. No two people are going to 100% agree 100% of the time. Arguments and resolution are very normal part of a relationship.

Honestly if we teach all kids to be respectful, to stand up for those who can’t stand up for themselves, to be knowledgeable and kind, to ask for consent, to respect the word no,.., it doesn’t matter if it’s a boy or a girl with whichever kinds of parents. If we teach all kids to be good humans, we will have a bunch of good humans

I think it would be nice even as an adult to see a healthy relationship. I think as an adult I’ve become more cynical. I don’t really know a healthy relationship once you get to know people in their relationships and you get to know all the things that go along with it and it doesn’t appear healthy. I do have healthy friendships and I do know what those are like.

The problem is when people speak in absolute like never or always. Of course, a man can grow out to be a good man without a positive male role model, but more positive male role models in the world will lead to more good men on average.

Yes yes yesss!!! My sons raised surrounded by women, the few men weren’t nice, I now have well cared for kids, that are utterly useless at looking after themselves…. I dunno what that’s about, we doted, taught, comforted…

1. I agree that an abusive relationship or terrible marriage is worse than having no man in the house.
2. The reality is that boys do need male role models, but they don't have to be living in the house. This is something that has been extensively studied. I'm talking about teachers, neighbors, etc., who create friendships with the families and boys in question and provide loving and helpful community. 3. There's a fantastic book on this subject called "The Boy Crisis" by Drs John Gray and Warren Farrell. Highly, highly recommend.

Any bad role model, to be fair.. A single mother trashing your father, while he doesn't even know you exist, is going to make you feel unwanted, until you're old enough to find said father figure. Then you'll see you've been lied to your entire life. (Happened to my dad) Somehow, magically or whatever, my dad is amazing, precent to this day. (I'm 30) And I'm proud to call him my father, even though mom and dad split when I was 5. The negativity mom served me on the other hand, has me fuming about how she as a parent dealt with the entire situation. She trashed him, on everything.. But he was a better parent than she ever was.

A tribe of bonobos took out all the violent males in their community, permanently, and have since raised new generations of males with no bad male influences. They are thriving. The quality of role models extends to all life, for certain.
