@3dprintedmom: what are your thoughts if you design your own files?? i'm new here so maybe it's the norm but it feels weird??? #3dprinted #3dprintdesign #3dprinterfiles #3dprinting #3dprinttok
No offense but your compliant is like saying Burger King can’t make a cheese burger cause McDonald’s already made one. As long as they don’t make your exact design there is no way to fight it. I think I may be confused about your argument here.

unless you copyrighted it there's nothing you can do. lawyers and such need to get involved. more money than it's worth if you're broke. Post it on Cults or Similar behind a paywall so that there's a papertrail showing when you made it, publicly. or just take pride in the fact that people like your work if that's wnough.

This is why when I got my 3-D printer I said I’m not making this a business. I just wanna have fun with mine release my files freely and I absolutely love my 3-D printer. There’s no stress.

I don’t care really as long as people are having fun. People rip my files all the time. It’s all good and chill.

Things like this are why I'm hesitant to even make my models available. I dont spend 6+ hours at minimum modeling just for it to get treated as disposable. I understand 3d printing evolved from a very open source space, but people's work is valuable and I feel like that gets forgotten sometimes

That is so frustrating! I don’t have any advice to offer except to validate your feelings on this. I would be extremely bothered. :(

is it a business or a hobby to you. if its a business and legit copyright go after them. if its a hobby enjoy others like your creations

Logo or watermark I started doing that for this reason I also embed my logo into the files or if it’s a file that’s vital to my business I don’t bother posting it up.

I would watermark your name on it.

Definitely embed a name or logo. Unfortunately this is a reality of the industry but the majority of people are still honest. Stay focused on designing the next amazing thing and building a loyal community.

It’s normal but I’ve never seen Starbucks complain that McDonalds sells coffee to.. the way I look at it yes it’s normal but stealing ideas anyone can do. The people who can think of something and make it can always make more items. All print files are not the same and people stealing ideas probably can’t even perfect the settings on simple models. It’s the way of the world.

That’s one reason I started putting my logo on both my pic and in my background (and people were selling my models without a license/patreon membership and claiming it was free on Makerworld and they were using my own product photos..)

View it as they’re not getting the experience, could just be custom packaging, a nice letter, but the other dude is not taking the time out of his day to do that stuff.

I find it easier if the person who created it puts their name on it so I can find it

If I can remake your design from a picture it’s probably not that original to start with kind of how I feel about it. I do emboss my logo in most my designs now because I got tired of people selling my prints without getting any compensation or at least recognizing it was my design
