The problem stemmed from an incident where Neuer imitated Oliver Kahn's corner flag celebration several years earlier. After he signed for the club that summer, the fanbase split into two factions that were for or against the signing. During a preseason friendly, a group of Bayern fans held up a banner that read "No matter how many balls you save, we will never accept you in our shirt." It was only when Neuer personally met with the fans and agreed to their the rules surrounding respect and conduct, did they agree to stop hounding him. This weekend, Neuer returns to face his boyhood club with 600 appearances for Bayern under his belt.
