I don't know how it works elsewhere, but in Hungary I can take my used cooking oil to a petrol station for free. They collect it and recycle it into biodiesel and biogas.

in small cities in Brasil, we save the oil in bottles and then there's people who go around the neighborhoods in cars and they trade you the oil for cleaning products and soap 🙃

Save your money, just pour it into a bowl, lined with aluminum foil. Set it to the side, it hardens itself. Then roll up the hardened Oil in the foil and throw it away.
