My point is that saying “the universe could have just existed forever” doesn’t really answer the question. An unconscious object has no mind, intention, or agency. We observe that minds create and cause things intentionally, while objects themselves don’t choose to create anything. So if reality ultimately comes down to some eternal, mindless thing, you still have to explain why that thing exists and why it produces anything at all. I’m not saying “nothing can’t create something, therefore God”, I’m saying that if something is ultimately responsible for reality, a necessary, conscious being with the ability to intend and create makes more sense than an unconscious object with no agency. The real question is why is there something rather than nothing, and what kind of thing could actually explain it?
