@wandering.legacies: Cuban folklore is shaped by centuries of cultural exchange, blending Indigenous traditions, Spanish and Catholic influences, African cultural traditions, rural guajiro storytelling, and real events that slowly became legend. In Part 2, meet the shapeshifting Cagüeiro, the mysterious Luz de Yara, the eerie Babujal, the wandering Bola de Candela, and La Milagrosa, the beloved figure of popular devotion whose tomb in Havana became associated with miracles. #CubanFolklore #Cuba #Cuban #legendsandmyths #folklore

Im from banes we mostly had el güije , and in barona almost getting to macabi there’s a legend that a husband offed his wife on the side of the road and you can see a lady asking for a lift and she gets in your car and disappears, the other one is between barona and macabi going towards beguita tres about this place that is surrendered by trees and you can hear the tambores and people screaming I can confirm because I was nosy and I went to it when I was hearing the tambores on my way to the finca with my grandpa and no one was there it sounded like they had a big ceremony and as soon as you went to see all the sounds would stop , we also had the legend of the d3ad pilot which landed in banes too and supposedly you can hear a man cry in agony and you can see a figure walking alone at night , also the other one is the shadow that chases you my grandpa had an experience with it , he was walking home one night 2 hour walk and he was passing the street lights and noticed someone following him , he walked faster and the shadow would do so too , he said he started running and the shadow started running to and suddenly he stopped and looked back and the shadow was at the street light infront of him , he took a different route home and never seen it again but many others have seen it and experienced it too

I remember when I went to Cuba the first time and had the fattest firefly come into the room in the middle of the night. All I saw was a green orb and woke the entire house up. I was so embarrassed.

I was part of a Latino Anthology my piece was based on a Cuban version of a Madre de Aguas. I also recommend Mitologica Cubana by Samuel Feijoo for more academic sources (but not all of it has aged well)

I’ve been to La Milagrosa’s tomb. You’re suppose to petition her by going to her grave without turning your back on her.
