@drgreghealth: Ladies, if your weight won't budge and it feels like you've tried everything, here's what I want you to do today. I've been a functional medicine doctor for more than 25 years. And I promise you, the answer is not cutting calories again. Here's what the research actually shows. Number one: Protein and muscle. When women lose weight without enough protein, they lose almost five times more muscle than women who eat adequate protein in the same deficit. And muscle is what keeps your metabolism running. So the fix isn't just eating less, it's eating enough protein, roughly a gram per pound of goal body weight, and adding strength training two to three times a week. Number two: Look at your sleep. In one study, women sleeping eight and a half hours lost significantly more fat than women sleeping five and a half hours, on the exact same calories. Sleep isn't a luxury. It's a metabolic tool. Number three: Stress. Chronic cortisol drives fat storage, especially around the midsection. And it's often the piece nobody addresses, because it doesn't show up on a food blog. So today, stop cutting further. Add protein, add strength training, and protect your sleep. Your body isn't broken. It's protecting you until you give it what it's actually asking for. Find the root. Heal the whole.

Quality sleep is best. My 6 hrs sleep sometimes has better quality. Resting heart rate and deep sleep better than 8 hrs of not so good sleep rating.

What protein powder would you recommend for middle aged women? I have a mother with early onset Alzheimer’s. She’s 70 and first exhibited symptoms about 9 years ago. I saw your video on testing a complete protein and insulin panel, so I’ll do that. I’m adding creatine, magnesium and vitamin d - my vitamin D is low. I also had raynauds - that disappeared - but was replaced with Vitiligo. I am in constant fight or flight with financial issues and kids/mom, so I know I need to work towards NOT going down the same path as my mom (she worked nights as a nurse for 20 plus years and had high stress/bp - we think this contributed to her Alzheimer’s and HOPE it’s not hereditary). Either way, I want to take all the right steps here.

I’m trying to go to sleep between 10 & 11 pm to get my 8 hours. I’ve even started to take magnesium glycinate. Ugh, I was up until 3:00!
