@sonmaisafish: EDUCATION DOES NOT BELONG TO THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE. We need to start envisioning education in our local languages too #fyp #naijatok #politics #colonialism #smart

If you know how people drag me claiming that I speak my English with Yoruba accent. Someone even said I should go and work on myself😂. I come dey wonder say shey British and American accent no different? A South African will speak English and people will know where he comes from. Same with Congolese or Ugandan citizen. I tire for this thing o.

This one is better, I went to a school in the South East, a school predominantly dominated by the Igbos, and speaking Igbo was prohibited; it was a punishable offense. We were only allowed to speak Igbo on Wednesdays. Our native language was what they called vernacular. Of course, we spoke Igbo but the principal could punish you if she heard you speak Igbo on any day that is not Wednesday. Rubbish!!!

Lol, until you need to make a statement in fluent English, then you remember that you’ve spoken Pidgin for way too long, and now find it difficult to hold a conversation in English (fluently). If you know how to speak English speak it when necessary, if you can’t speak fluently practice often to get better. You never know when you’ll need to converse in fluent English

Nigerian Pidgin is a product of our ancestors trying to communicate in a language that was forced upon them. It’s a shame that we don’t see their efforts and resilience.
