@thecatholictvnetwork: The Body and the Blood of Christ are intentionally consecrated separately at Mass. Why? Well, let me ask you — What happens when a person’s body and blood are separated? They die. The separate consecration of the two species signifies Christ’s death — the separation of his Body and Blood. But Christ’s death is not final. When we receive His Body and Blood in the Eucharist, we are not consuming His death, but His Life. That is why, before communion, the priest drops a small piece of the Host into the chalice. The Body and the Blood are reunited, representing the restoration of Christ’s life in His living and glorious resurrected body. This is what we receive. Why? So that we, too, may become part of this supernatural union. That our deaths may not be final, and we may be restored to life through Jesus Christ. This is the sacrament of Christ’s sacrifice. This is the beauty of the Holy Eucharist.
