Our hospital tried to expand services to use ORs evenings and weekends too. But it turns out that you then need to staff ALL other departments 24/7 as well because the patients don’t just show up magically in the OR without first being processed by registration, prepared by the day surgery unit, received post op by PACU, labs drawn by phleb, etc etc. There’s no way to do this without massively expanding personnel at every step. And guess what? A lot of people don’t WANT to work evenings and weekends so you lose staff. I can promise you that there is a number of admin who likely don’t need to be paid what they are, but they never seem to extend THEIR hours or cut THEIR positions.

we aren't mad enough about how many operating rooms are shuttered, collecting dust. we (the taxpayers) paid for it and its just gathering dust. now they want us to pay a premium for off site for profit businesses. healthcare should never ever be for profit.

I wish AB had a government that understood healthcare administration or trusted professionals instead of wasting healthcare $$ paying severances, giving contracts to businesses with zero experience or health insurers who will increase costs!
