they told us multiculturalism would be this beautiful thing but suddenly no one is allowed to partake in any other culture, literal segregation 😐

White dude but anthropologist so take my opinion as much or as little as you want; cultural appropriation as an issue should be reserved for sacred acts/aspects of culture OR if they are stealing ideas from others without crediting the origins/sources.

People don’t realise how much food we eat today comes from the British empire if you like katsu curry chicken tikka masala or any western fusion of eastern cuisine you bet it has roots in the British empire

I really dislike how like every countries "traditional food" most of the time isn't even 100 years old or barely is 100 years old
like point to any national dish from any country and the version that is the national dish is basically a new invention even if they come from a actual traditional dish they're still very different to it's roots

i’ve been saying this. ppl in/from other countries enjoy when others try out their culture. it’s the kids born in the western countries who suddenly have a problem with it. which is so interesting bc multiculturalism used to be so celebrated

I think another reason people fall into this is because they were either bullied or someone made negative comments about their culture. They stopped embracing their culture and are mad when they see others embrace it.

white people just wanna enjoy and appreciate different cultures that's what America is all about. you might call it superficial but that's how we learn more about each other to get along and actually move past racism. that's the best part of America

I feel like cultural appropriation is real on the level of multinational corporations taking our culture to make money off of. But some individual white person wearing henna or whatever doesn’t really matter. If they’re praised for it and you’re not that’s more so just racism than anything else. But also I think people focus on this kind of hyper individual shaming because they have no faith anything larger could be changed.

the biggest example of this when buzzfeed uploaded this video of young asian people vs asian elders trying Panda Express and the younger crowd were doing way too much criticizing it like crazy while elders were enjoying it and not having much of a problem with it

White people can wear dreads and drink chai while still calling you the N-Word or vote in favor of deporting you. As a white euorpean I will not argue that it's not about your connection to your culture. But I always understood it as a deeper wound that no matter how much of your culture you share, white people can still decide if that makes you human or not.

And dare I say we can draw the same parallels between Africans from Africa and then Black Americans who are SO precious about Hip Hop and AAVE
