Conversational literacy. Good expression. I have chats with people at work who say, "I didn't say that!" and I have to say, "I know. I said it. I said it in response to what you said. That is how conversation works." Almost verbatim, this has occurred many times.

It's honestly exhausting. They're not even open to being corrected or taught. It's always "it's not that deep", which it literally is, and "well I understand what I meant". English is my second language, I should not have a better grasp of it than a native speaker.
