Gap struggles because it’s the same style year over year. Nothing has changed for 30yrs

I bought a pair of shorts on sale online for $35 but when I went in store the same shorts were on clearance for $9 .99 🤷🏻♀️

I know how he’s making his money. There is now only one Gap store in the middle of my state. It’s in our most high end mall. I know b/c of returns. I also have the gap credit card. It can be used anywhere. Every time I swipe it at a grocery store or any business, Gap makes 1-3% off my card (the swipe). I use it often for points. I pay it off, but he still gets all the swipe fees. That’s what has made him successful.

Richard Dickson was part of the failure with Nine West I do think he’s on to something. He’s 100% correct on what they conditioned customers to do, but there is nothing that segments the brand. He does need to create a niche, but, at a better price point.

I’ve actually returned to the gap. Haven’t really been there since the 1990s, but the quality is there now and it’s worth a revisit.

Going back to basics, like the golden era in the 90s with Mickey. Yet, now it is with a twist. As a former store manager from the 90s, it is nice to see the comeback.

i absolutely hate seeing a $50 quality shirt priced at $100 and on a perpetual 50% off, fake over discounting is one of my least favorite tactics as a customer, like god how big is your margin if you’re always 50% off???

I worked at gap for 10 years from 2013-2023, and I remember every time we took away a 40% off sale we would just sigh and say “well, looks like we won’t make any money until the 40% off comes back”

It’s so expensive ( too me ) for basic clothes the cheapest shirt I could find ( in store ) was $35 and it was a plain basic white tee but maybe there cheaper online

To the Gap CEO - go back to what you sold (quality) and how market your clothing in the late 90’s. I worked there for years - it was high quality at a reasonable price. It was classic, timeless.
