@drgreghealth: All right, new mamas, here are three changes you need to make to your diet postpartum. I've been a functional medicine doctor for more than 25 years, and I'll tell you exactly what I tell every new mom in my practice. This is not the season to diet down. This is the season to rebuild. Change one: Replace your iron. You lost significant iron during delivery. And if you're breastfeeding that little pumpkin, your baby is pulling from your iron stores. Think red meat, liver, leafy greens. These need to be back on your plate, not restricted. Change two: Prioritize DHA and choline. These directly shape your baby's brain and vision development through your breast milk. And DHA specifically has been shown to lower a new mother's risk of postpartum depression. Think fatty fish, eggs, and if needed, a good quality supplement. Change three: Eat enough protein, and frankly, eat enough. So many new moms are under-eating while their body's trying to heal, regulate hormones, and produce milk. Aim for real meals with protein at every single one, not just snacking your way through the day. Your body did something absolutely miraculous. Feed it like it matters, because it does. And so do you. Find the root. Heal the whole.

Let's not normalize not taking care of ourselves? I have 3, soon to be 4 kids and ensure I shower 1-2 times a day and eat 3 solid meals? Like it really isn't that hard. Yes ive done postpartum working full time, no I dont have a village. I have also had PPD. But not taking care of yourself isnt a flex

My husband bought so much college and bone marrow per my mom’s request. My mom taught my husband how to cook different soups for me and my milks health. I was on soups for like 20 days after giving birth. And every afternoon my husband or mom would make me a green smoothie and every evening I would get a protein shake.

Amazing info, I had no clue baby took your iron. Now, I'm unsure if it's safe to breast feed if I'm struggling with low iron before pregnancy.

I’ve got 3 boys and just had twins, I have always sucked at feeding myself postpartum. I’m pounding protein bars & shakes where I can. Even if it’s not a real meal cause taking the time I hard for me, I’m definitely trying harder this time😂

My prenatals have DHA in them, and I’ve just been continuing them since having her because I’m breastfeeding. She’s a month old now, and I haven’t had any signs of baby blues or PPD👏🏻
