It’s actually not been the understanding that it’s free use. We studied Copyright and immaterial rights at art school and you can’t just take someone elses stuff and do whatever you want with it. If you use others photos you gotta quote it. Back in the days of messages forums, the rule still was you had to credit where you linked the photos
