I think anime NYC weekend pass was several hundred dollars which is just insane. Not to mention the hotels are 500/night, plus $120/night parking... I will not be going again.

I’ve been doing artist alley for over 10 years. The conventions have priced most of us out. A lot of artists are staying in their home states or doing online or quitting altogether. I have conversations with them this entire year and no one is making good money like they used to. Most said they were more then 50% down from what they usually make and all of our supplies and product have sky rocketed. Unfortunately you’re gonna see a lot of resellers/AI artists and less authenticity. A lot of cons at a minimum are charging us $400 for a 6 foot booth with 2 to 3 feet behind us. That’s Midwest pricing it can get into the thousands for major big events closer to the coasts. Sprinkle in the oversaturation of conventions, the higher price of tickets for the attendees, anything from guests (signatures and photos) by the time everything said and done there’s not much left for people to spend in the artist Alley. Just is what it is I guess. Sucks cause I loved doing Artist alleys but now I’m picking a hand full of of favorites and that’s all I’m doing for this next year.

You forgot the "oh I think we should only have one entrance and exit to the parking lot with very limited spaces so then everyone has to park on the street and no one can get out, and while we're at it lets charge them $30 to park

$80?!?! That's CHEAP?!? Planet Comic Con charges like $200 for their weekend pass. which is also on the low end compared to some other cons.

Remeber when Voice Actors at cons didnt charge for Autographs? Generally you could always get at least 1 autograph for free.. but now even a moderately popular guest charges upwards of $50 for an autograph on something you brought with you?! Anime cons moving to guarantees instead of appearance fees has greatly impacted spending in artist alleys and dealers rooms.

The convention here costs $180, parking is around 40-50 a day. They rarely take local performers and the same couple bands have been playing 20+ years. Sometimes escalators/elevators don’t work. One hotel the ac didn’t work and they started cancelling reservations a week before the con. Another hotel had a poop pipe leak. The food is good, but it’s going to run you $20 just for a burger (no sides or drink). I still love Dragoncon though

I feel a little bit bad because some of the stuff is out of their control like the cost of the convention center, and whether or not certain parts of it like escalators are working or not all of that means they have to keep upping the ticket cost to even be able to afford the space so they’re more likely to take whoever will pay them the highest fees and stuff, but it doesn’t make it any less irritating when you can tell a con is cheaply run

How about a one day "Anime Fest" in the smallest ballroom available with the worst lighting (everything looked orange) tickets were $40, you could hardly move, parking was $10, no local vendors, tons of temu/ai/3d printed dragon top stuff, aaand it wasn't even at the hotel it was advertised for.

This con is fully gone now (for good reason) but when I was 17 there was this con in SeaTac that hired a DJ that turned out to be a pdf and they refused to fire him when he was literally inviting children back to his hotel room
