People need to hear this. My grandmother's house sold for over $600k and we used that to put her in a nice but not crazy assisted living facility. She lived another 15 years and there was no money left at the end.

They are on their own. I went without glasses, braces, healthcare, safety my whole childhood.

My mom is 81, she wants to stay home in her condo. I live a couple of units away. I check on her a couple of times a day. I give her meds, clean & do chores and do bills. I am finding my to- do list gets longer each week. It’s very stressful trying to juggle my needs and hers. I am exhausted.

I've had multiple adults tell me their kids are their retirement. It's so selfish.

I'm gonna be honest with you. You move Em into your house and you take care of them. That's what you're supposed to do, not limited options. The only one option you should be doing is taking care of your parents because they took care of you. It's only fair that you reciprocate

So what happens if you don’t “put” them anywhere, if they have to figure it out on their own. I live out of state and my mom is a very mean hoarder with dementia.. and she is impossiable and doesn’t want help. The burden is not on me…She can live her crazy life and if she gets hospitalized the social workers can figure it out for her. I in no way will take any responsibility for her care. I don’t want the abuse …

Why do all of them refuse to even discuss this? Such a selfish generation. I am 50 and already planning for this, I do t want to burden my kids with this

I grew up being told that I was going to have to “take care of them” when they get old. I’ve been their plan the whole time. Unfortunately they didn’t take care of ME as a child so therefore, their plan is not MY plan 😇

They can just figure it out. Thats what they told us to do when we were young.

I broke off an engagement a few years ago because of what his plans were (have his mother move in with us and me take care of her. No thanks) it’s really that serious 😭 thankfully my parents have their care already paid for in advance and I’m greatful for that

You mean millions specially memory care you mean millions because let’s just say your mother or father my mother’s had dementia for 10 years. I’m very fortunate. My dad is her caregiver. He’s 62 he’s 65. He’s in good health and right now it does not we hopefully will not ever have to put her somewhere but let me just tell you in 2011 in my area. It was $11,000 a month for memory care. One of my clients mother was there for two years if it wasn’t for the fact that she had a fall and that’s what kind of took her out. She could’ve been there for another year or two it. It’s absurd. It’s horrible that you work your whole life and then you get something you can’t control and because you don’t have tons of money you have to suffer.

We are doing the same as they did when we turned 18, "good luck, figure it out," and we keep them in a state without fillial laws. We are, however, making sure our children do not have to figure it out.

Hopefully this will be a wake-up call for people to plan accordingly, and to NOT put that burden on their children. This should be taken care of in ADVANCE of needing that type of care

These struggles always baffle me because why have they not preplanned this out years ago? Unless you die, then end of life is coming for everyone. They literally had a lifetime to plan for this.

I took care of my mom for 15 years... this last time she was hospitalized I refused to take her back into my house... i couldn't do it anymore... she flipped out on me... im so done... the ltc facility deemed her 100% competent to make her own decisions... she has no home and only a ss check her and the social worker can figure out because i quit.

Mine got a lawyer so they will sell the property that was in family since late 1800s with TONS of farmland and building to pay for their fancy nursing home they picked out. So, if that happens, no one will have any inheritance because they are selfish
