A mistrial because ONE juror out of twelve refused to apply the law despite acknowledging reasonable doubt is absolutely insane to me. The defense even asked for that juror to be replaced when alternates were available, yet the judge chose to end the trial instead. Weeks of work, testimony, evidence, emotional exhaustion, time and money only for everyone to potentially fight the same battle all over again. And that is what disturbs me most: at some point, this stops feeling like justice and starts feeling like everyone is simply determined to stick to their own position. A juror is not there to impose a personal belief or prove that their opinion wins. They are there to apply the law the very law this entire trial exists to uphold. With everything that has happened from the investigation to this mistrial, don’t tell me I’m unreasonable for questioning corruption anymore. Watching this from outside the United States has genuinely changed the way I view the American justice system.
