According to my research, the Calabar people started killing twins because the Europeans told them their twin deities were demons (evil spirits). Before that, the Calabar people gave reverence to twins because of the twin deities they worshipped. They believed twins were reincarnations of their twin deities. After they were made to believe the deities were demons– through Christianity, the people started seeing twins as reincarnations of demons. Thank God for the Calabar King that abolished the killing of twins in Calabar.
