You've just described my last relationship to a tee! The sex at the start was amazing, then it barely happened and when it did it felt mechanical as you described. I felt so unattractive and undesired. He was too hungry, too tired, too stressed to do it. Another excuse he used was that he said he was really self conscious about the way he looked, even though he didnt have an issue with this at the start! I left almost a month ago now, he drained my self confidence!
