I love Shiki sm. He distances himself from the joys of daily life and humanity because of the fact he lives on borrowed time. I love him particularly in Ciel’s route because it explores his self hatred, when he stalks and kills Arcueid it sends him spiralling because of the realisation that he’s a cold hearted killer. Ciel doesn’t help absolve him of his guilt, rather she helps him understand there are others who are monsters and struggle with feeling they deserve to exist. Ciel teaches him what love feels like, that it’s okay to live and embrace your flawed human nature, to enjoy life despite your crimes. Conversely, Shiki teaches her that while certain sins are unforgivable, true atonement is to bear the weight of those sins and to choose happiness regardless. I find it beautiful that he doesn’t try to patch over her guilt from being Roa, rather he wants to help shoulder the burden of her sins together.
