After seeing Don’t Bring Your Man to Atlanta, I understand Gerald’s reaction a whole lot better. Shamea has already explained that her husband is more conservative and doesn’t even like that type of attention, so I can only imagine how uncomfortable it was for him watching his wife have multiple intimate scenes with another man. And it wasn’t just the physical part for me. The storyline itself had her character not being on one accord with her husband and ultimately becoming intimate with another man because of what she felt was lacking in her marriage. Whew! If Shamea wants to pursue acting, absolutely pursue it, but in MY opinion, when you’re married, communication about roles like this needs to happen BEFORE you film them. Tell your spouse what the role involves, what the scenes require and let the two of you have that conversation privately. And I don’t even like framing it as Gerald “allowing” her to do something because she’s a grown woman. To me, it’s about respect and transparency in your marriage. If Gerald truly didn’t know the extent of these scenes until afterward, I understand why he was upset. An acting opportunity might be exciting, but you shouldn’t have your spouse finding out what you filmed when everybody else does. I don’t know, y’all.
