I think it’s because they genuinely view it as “love.” Like, you got mentioned in a song where the rapper is calling you horrid names, but that’s seen as, “Well, I was in a song that’s love, that’s them showing I’m special.” Then the rappers are going on podcasts calling them hoes and bitches, and it’s just seen as, “Well, I was mentioned.” I really don’t think it’s about what the rappers actually do or say; it’s more about the validation they get from simply being recognised, in my opinion.
