Archeological evidence of pottery put the arrival of the Proto-Nguni around 1000 to 1200AD, Bantu style iron smelting evidence is dated back to around 400 to 600AD. everything I saw about great Zimbabwe and Mapungubwe is that it were people related to the Venda, Tsonga and Shona, there's even Venda villages nearby to the site with oral traditions about the city.
