It was my daughter's who were hit. The couch went out of control, hit them at the finish line, clocked at 90 kms/hr. The three guys walked to the only ambulances and left leaving one ambulance behind. Both girls were unconscious, buried in the sand, one without vitals. The paramedics couldn't find a back board or neck brace for my 5 year old. My older girl had to be put on a canvas stretcher with neck & back injuries. We were told there was no insurance. No insurance benefits were ever paid -- $0.00 😵‍💫 All three guys were uninjured. They flew and hit the hay bales provided at the bottom for exactly that purpose.

I was there as part of the ski team running it I was halfway up the hill running timing when that happened. earlier that day we had been hit by anouther couch up there. it was a truly cursed day

I totally remember that! Grew up in PG. I never actually knew why they stopped doing that. Hiking the face of the cutbanks is now the regular there.

sand blast days....yup. buddy and his friends thought a couch would make a good sled. the blame them for ending the event...however no one stopped them either now we climb the sand banks

Best part was the “Sandblast” dance that night at the old hall downtown next to the legion! $1.00 beers, $2.00 rye drinks! Live band until 3:00 am!
