Genuinely what was airbus thinking giving this thing four hairdryers, two bigger engines would’ve been enough, and that’s basically the a330 which was built from the same program as the A340

The reason the Airbus A340-200/300 had such underpowered engines was because they were meant to use this super efficient turbofan but the technology was delayed and cancelled so they scrambled to grab engines with similar efficiency and the cfm 56’s had similar efficiency but way, way less thrust
