If you want know why doing SEO for your website can feel so hard sometimes, this document explains why. Google literally says “Attempts to manipulate search results are continuous, sophisticated, and well-funded. Information about how Search works should remain need to know.” Google says internally, “Everything we leak will be used against us by SEOs, by patent trolls, competitors, et cetera.” Over the years many SEOs have done experiments showing how Search really works. We share this stuff then Google says it isn't true. Famously, Rand Fishkin showed that if you can get more clicks on your Google result, your result will move up. He did a test, got 228 clicks in three hours, ranked on position number one. Google said, though, that this was “made up crap.” We learn how search works, then figure out how to do great SEO. Try this in your favorite LLM. “My page title formula is: Target Keyword | Benefit or Searcher’s Goal | Brand Name My target keyword is [insert]. My brand name is [insert]. Give me the rest of the page title.” You will get page titles that searchers actually want to click on. When you get more clicks, your results in Google move up.
