I had to regrade my yard too for the same reason. Make sure you do a layer of crushed rock (kinda like paver base) first before the soil… it will be more stable, provide another layer for water to filter, and won’t erode.

You’re on the right track!! Definitely need to move the downspouts so the water from the roof is sloping away and not moving towards the house. Any water around the house that sits needs to be able to move away from the house

Oh no, really hope you don’t find asbestos down there 😳 We have a 70s house too and wanted a new bathroom. Turns out there’s asbestos in the glue behind the bathroom tiles 😬 So new plan impending.

regarding the issue with the water. You mentioned that the issue may be due to water possibly "pooling" in your back patio area. A French Drain is what you mentioned. ou would need to dig a gravel-filled trench containing a perforated underground pipe to capture and pull groundwater away from the foundation walls. It definitely sounds like the right path. Sadly, it is NOT a cheap fix. 😞

I had a 70s house for awhile. They used aluminum wiring at the time. We had a couple outlet mini-fires and I had a couple plastic child safety outlet covers MELT. 🙃

I used hydraulic cement on my basement leaks. This house is over 100 years old and it really helped! 99% leak free.
