I’ve spent a lot of time in the Eastern District Court of Virginia, and it opened my eyes to how the justice system really works. Watching cases, listening to arguments, and seeing how judges handle different situations taught me more than I ever expected.
After that, I started visiting General District Courts in my county and even in other counties. Each court had its own rhythm and personality, and I learned something new every time.
Eventually, I decided to take on some cases myself as a pro se litigant. I won some, I lost some, and I appealed several of them to the Circuit Court. Going through the full process filing, arguing, appealing was challenging but incredibly rewarding. It gave me a real, hands-on understanding of how cases move through the system.
I also took on disputes with large corporations. In those situations, I pushed for arbitration and succeeded in compelling it. Now the cases are being handled through the AAA/ADR, and that experience has shown me a whole different side of dispute resolution. Arbitration has its own rules, pace, and strategy, and learning it has been fascinating.
Overall, these experiences across federal court, local courts, and arbitration have taught me a tremendous amount. It’s been an amazing journey, and it’s given me a deep appreciation for how the justice system works from the inside.
