I’ve been practicing criminal law for almost 15 years, on both sides, and still don’t understand why the reasonable doubt of one juror isn’t considered a failure of the State’s burden of proof.

Watching people react to this trial is why a jury of my “peers” scares me.

I am willing to bet the lone juror is going to go public and milk this for money. Him being as adamant to stand by his willfulness to break the law you can’t convince me he’s not happy as hell with himself.

And make no mistake, this will STILL be spun as the majority of the jury trying to bully the lone holdout. He will be praised by dumbasses and that makes me furious. 🙄

watching this trial play out has confirmed for me that the general American public does not care about justice, they just want revenge.

I commented on someone’s video about the holdout juror that the number of “leave this poor man alone” comments were horrifying and promptly had 10 people say the exact same thing and trying to “call me out” saying it’s only because he’s a black man and what about the other juror with charges and my mind is just freaking blown. First of all, I had zero idea he was black until they said that, zero. Secondly, his charges are relevant because they show a bias to this particular situation, AND the other juror with charges ISN’T BREAKING THE LAW by refusing to return a not guilty verdict after admitting they have reasonable doubt! And then there’s the actual evidence, and I work in mental health which means I work closely with healthcare workers in general but I don’t even need that to be able to google how fast a core body temperature can fall. I told my therapist last week that my current worst fear is being judged by a “jury of my peers” because wtaf is going on??

I was on a trial where the last day after days of deliberations she basically was like “he was arrested so he’s a criminal” she didn’t believe in innocent until proven guilty. Ppl that do this are so fucking annoying and waste everyone’s fucking time.

I am curious how you feel about jury nullification I know that’s a controversial topic but I think that’s kind of the reverse of the situation here lol. Is that also problematic from a legal perspective because basically jurors are not following the law?

People think because they can understand "some" things that they understand how law and court proceeding operate. The people are in real time demonstrating Dunning-Kreuger. "If I don't understand or claim to understand something then that thing is wrong!"

Innocent until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt is important, the ruling is not supposed to be based off emotions or personal opinions. It’s supposed to based on the facts of the case it’s pretty simple. Some people are wild. I know you typically don’t comment on active trials but a podcast episode on some of Kevin Reddingtons cases and some of the prosecution’s previous cases or trial tactics would be incredibly interesting coming from an actual legal expert (you)

Reddington read the note, it said “We have a juror who has made statements of reasonable doubt but refuses to apply it to the law.”

Will there be any consequences for the juror who is refusing? “I am blatantly refusing the follow the law” seems like something there should be consequences for.

From the emergency court document filed today it alleged that the juror has a bias against people with debilitating mental illness. How the heck did he even make it on this jury?

I literally saw someone say "It has to be BEYOND a reasonable doubt, so you can have one doubt but nothing beyond that" we are in fact in a literacy crisis....
