As someone who works at Walmart and does markdowns; trust me, I agree. However, sometimes I’m given $100 that I have to split between 100 items.

Usually it’s not Walmart itself it’s the brand, as someone who works there, we can’t lower the price of a specific brand, for example Reebok, if it says it’s clearance for $15 it’s gonna stay like that, now if it’s Walmarts brand, we’ll mark it down more if we have the money to do so

It’s called a budget Walmart has a certain budget every month for clearance. And it’s for the entirety of the store. So we have to weigh it out equally if home office marks it down that’s one thing but we have a budget that we cannot go past for the entire store so us team leads don’t market it down far but home office most likely will. The best time to go to stores for clearance is when they have remodels because they have a whole separate budget for the clearance when it comes to remodels. Like when my store went through a remodel I bought $150 tool kit for 25 bucks.

As a fashion TL, you’re telling me. We have all been complaining that the home office markdowns aren’t aggressive enough. No one wants like $2-$3 off. At my store we just did store markdowns and I marked everything between $3-$7 depending on the starting price.

The system won’t let us mark free assembly and scoop brand down to what we want, it’s home office that controls that and it sucks cuz it’ll be like $38 and they bring it down to $27
