@cbctoronto: While Ontario enforces strict individual class caps in elementary school, Grades 4 through 12 operate without a hard limit on individual classroom sizes. CBC's Chris Glover spoke with two Toronto-area educators about how they navigate larger learning environments. #ontario #school #education #classroom #cbcnews
Stop complaining to us parents, there is nothing we can do. Have your union negotiate smaller class size. Its the same story every year!!!!

Teacher for 35 years. I’ve taught 32 kids in K class, often. Large class sizes has been a major issue since the 90s. I can never understand why when research has shown over & over that smaller classes mean more effective learning.

Nope :
I was the start of the increase so we went up to 32 kids, teacher doesn’t have time to help anyone 👍

That’s if you don’t have behavioral issues. Two besties is all it takes to take even a small class size of 10-15 downhill

Parents can barely handle their own kid who 1-1 but teachers are supposed to take 38 strangers kids all together and teach them and keep it fun in a show box with no money for supplies 🙃

Larger class sizes turn schools into 8 hour holding cells unit the day is done. It takes away the human experience of learning and shows children that individual assistance isn’t theirs to have. As someone who went from large class sizes to classes no larger than 8. I can tell you with utmost certainty, it’s the biggest issue and the reason our children are failing. We have failed them.

So more students, more behaviours, one teacher. Then they wonder why student’s academic is declining

The government doesn’t make meaningful changes to classroom sizes because, from their perspective, the system continues to function. And I use “function” VERY loosely.
Teachers keep overcrowded classrooms afloat. Students still get taught, graduate, and move on. Teachers and parents can provide years of feedback and statistics showing the consequences, but the system hasn’t completely broken down, so there’s no urgency to fix it.
Unfortunately, it will probably take something drastic that can be directly tied to overcrowded classrooms to force meaningful change. Until then, teachers continuing to “manage” becomes the very excuse for allowing the problem to continue. 😐

Yes! And too complicated. Time to go back to Vista classes and special programs. Not all kids belong in traditional schools and teachers are supposed to be teaching.
