I mean honestly I think a very simple way/solution to handle this would be to separate who gets access to the information collected and how, meaning the police or any other organization cannot have access to the info, the info belongs to the courts and a judge is the only person who would be allowed to grant warrant access for police who want the info for investigation, it’ll be collected but only allowed access via a warrant through a court just like if police wanted access to someone’s private home, they would need to get permission from a judge to warrant and vet if it’s a reasonable request or not or stalk someone or find info about a potential criminal

That isn’t ALPR. That simple is a system that recognizes traffic to switch lights based on traffic rather than use expensive to install loop systems.

Given how we know Canadian police have abused their powers in the past, and misuse them to this day, I am very skepitcal of their "need" for these devices. Even with a theoretical perfect police service, would it actually need this? Of course not.

We want less crime but are against cameras that can track vehicles despite vehicle theft being at an all time high? As long as they aren’t issuing tickets I’m all for it. 🤷🏽♂️
