There are stories beneath my sleeves and embedded into my thighs, written in a language no one taught me how to speak. I think of my scars as braile, little sentences left behind by a teenager who couldn't find the right words. my sadness was always shy, it hid behind locked bathroom stalls, under bedsheets, inside my eyes. So I gave it another alphabet. Now I wonder if someone blind to my sadness could glide their hands on my skin and understand completely, not because they read the writing but because they couldn't. because maybe tried doesn't need eyes to be recognised. maybe these marks tell a million tiny words, a thousand page book pressed into a place where nobody thought to read. Sometimes I imagine someone I live turning each page of my skin with soft hands... amd perhaps that is all I ever wanted- not someone to admire the writing, not someone to ask me to explain every letter, Just someone gentle enough to understand that there was a whole language inside me, long before I learnt how to speak.
