I recall the underground in 80s and 90s, it was normal to see men like my farher in suit and long coat to go to work. In early 2000s all started to decay rapidly reaching a point where my father and other men felt being the weird ones. I even look at pictures of my grandparents (rest in peace) and even being poor they were well dressed and had good manners.

I do not think having class is a counterculture if it is a normalized and even expected type of behavior with older generations who had established the way we do thing in todays society to begin with. While yes a counterculture is something that goes against the current norm, it also typically opposes the norms of mainstream society, being polite or having class does not. WITH THAT SAID I do agree that more people need to have a sense of class or politeness.
