overtime versus higher tax rate at the cost of time with family/friends or personal time is simply not remotely worth it. 45 years in the trades and not once did working holiday (namely labor day) equate to squat in this thing called life. if that's your fancy, great. push it on others and you have your priorities completely backwards.

Expecting your employees to care as much as you when they are making a fraction of the profit you are is a wild thought process. I used to give legit cash bonuses for finishing early and it wasn’t some unattainable goal dangling the carrot type shit. I would price this into the job and hand the guys each a few grand each cash if we hit our target. Kept guys around and loyal

30 years experience, former Superintendent, now Project Manager here..... how you treat your guys dictates how they treat you. I never worked harder or showed up for the jerks. Invest in your employees and they'll invest in you. Treat them like they owe you something, and you'll be breathing heavy everyday as you work by yourself. There's a difference between being in charge and being a leader of men, sport.
