@godisglamorous: Just because parts of Deuteronomy are written in the third person does NOT mean Moses didn’t write Deuteronomy. Writing about yourself in the third person was not unheard of in ancient literature, and the Bible itself attributes the Law and specific portions of Deuteronomy to Moses. The account of Moses’ death at the end of Deuteronomy can also be understood as a later inspired addition without disproving Mosaic authorship of the material that came before it. So before someone uses “third person” as a gotcha against the Bible, we have to ask a better question: What does the biblical and historical evidence actually say about authorship?
