I’ll be honest, I live in the country country, had Starlink for 3 years and works great. Added Spectrum for testing since they just added it in our area and Starlink wins.

First and most importantly stop testing the internet on your wifi, period stop it, dont ever do that, 2nd stop doing it on battery. Go from ethernet right out of your router into the laptop ethernet using cat6 7 or 8 , nothing less. Make sure your laptop NIC is reporting gigabit once you are plugged in (doesnt mean it wont run worse but that’s step 1). Now do your speedtest.net

As network engineer here, doing it from different parts of your house doesn't test the actual internet provider well, more so test your wifi signal at home which is different from the internet. you need to plug in and speed test, and then be close to your wifi router and speed test. now... if you want close to the same speed all over your house in wifi, you need a mesh wireless system or wired wireless access points in the house. theh basically would wire back to the router. or in a mesh system, they chain to each other with their own wireless signal. The test you did mostly tells us the Frontier router you have is better than the Spectrum one and gives you better range inside the house. technically you are getting the gig from spectrum as shown when you do the test up closer to the router. but not getting the gig from Frontier if that is what you are paying for. so the spectrum would be better if you get your own better mesh router system.

1000 mbs is equal to 1 gig so NO you are NoT getting what you are paying for. Also are you on 2.5 or 5ghz? 2.5 has a wider range but slower speeds where 5 gives much faster speeds but a very limited range. Put your modem/router in your office or where you need the fastest internet. You can also get range extenders that help boost your signal for back rooms. I’m lucky to have comcast unlimited internet that gets me 2000+ upload and download, for only $80 mo.

I’m no pro, but you may need a wifi extender. There’s no guarantee you’ll get that speed, especially on a laptop. That’s what my company always tells me

Wifi you will always lose speed no matter what. You have be hardwired for real test. Also, Frontier used to be Verizon, true dedicated fiber optic all the way to your closet. Spectrum is a Honda and Fronteir is Ferrari if you are comparing speeds

You need some Extenders. Spectrum has them for $5 a month pre Extender. I would say looking at the Spectrum Speeds you could probably get by with 1 but I woudl get 2 Extenders just to be safe. You coule buy the EERO Extenders for the frontier yourself and then you own them free and clear otherwise they have those for $10 a month for 2. Both are average for High Use times of day you never truly get what you pay for with any of them. Just my Opinion the Frontier with Extenders would be what I would go with looking at those numbers they are the most consistent. Just my Opinion

Fiber > cable > wireless. Speed isn’t everything, latency matters more. Upload matters a lot more if you’re working from home. Video calls use more bandwidth than you think.
