As someone who does both - closing is much more physical labor. HOWEVER - it is not hard to make sure everything is fully stocked and clean. It just takes time. There’s no reason shit should be half empty and sticky counters after closing.

as someone who has worked both opening and closing, at my job at least, closing is harder. all the openers have to do is stock, mop the floor in lobby, and prep. mind you they get there before actually opening. and not once when I was opening did I not have enough time to what I had to do. and I only had 30 mins (on the clock at least. I will say, at my job openers are expected to start working before clocking in.. which is illegal but whatever, not the point), where closing? You're there until you're done. your end of shift is not a strict schedule. your end time is whenever everyone is done. we don't have the luxury of getting to just leave when our shift is over instead of having to deal with it until we're all done. if it's not too busy, it's not bad. but it's busy most nights.

I work both, hate the opening vs closing battle. Opening should be hustling getting prepped, stocked and cleaning throughout. Closing needs to stock the max so opening can get right to prep, setting up perfectly and then make sure the store is spotless. Neither is hard, everyone is just lazy af and need to just focus on their own job.

I’ve done both and let me tell you night shift is infinitely harder especially since I’ve done both one right after the other my morning shift was perfectly fine meanwhile night shift felt like the whole building was on fire

openers regularly leave me with massive bulging at the seams solid/liquid mass compost bins to take out first thing after I clock in and they've all vanished, but yeah totally it's an issue if I leave some glass kinda dusty

just switched to only morning shifts and life genuinely is sunshine and rainbows i can’t even bring myself to care ab anything else besides the fact that im free after 5pm 😝😝 station not stocked? DONT CAREEE left food out that i have to now throw away and remake? DONT CAREEEE a mess just in general? genuinely IDGAFFFF closing shifts literally make me want to die
