Were Africans present in the Americas before Christopher Columbus arrived in 1492? Claims of pre-Columbian African contact with the Americas have circulated for generations, with supporters pointing to ancient Mesoamerican art, oral traditions, possible transatlantic voyages, and especially the enormous stone heads created by the Olmec civilization. The Olmecs flourished along Mexico’s Gulf Coast more than 2,000 years before Columbus and became one of Mesoamerica’s earliest major civilizations. Their achievements included monumental architecture, sophisticated art, extensive trade networks, and important developments that influenced later Mesoamerican cultures. Some writers have argued that the facial features of the famous Olmec colossal heads indicate an African presence in ancient America. But mainstream archaeology, genetics, and anthropology do not currently support the conclusion that the Olmecs were an African civilization or that the indigenous populations of pre-Columbian California descended substantially from West Africans or Egyptians. What the evidence does reveal is arguably even more remarkable: Indigenous peoples built complex societies across the Americas for thousands of years before European colonization—and their histories deserve to be understood on their own terms. The debate over possible ancient transoceanic contact continues, but extraordinary historical claims require extraordinary evidence. #PreColumbian #AfricanHistory #NativeAmericanHistory #Olmec #learnhistoryontiktok

🥹#80s #backtothe90s #kindheit #geschichte #zeitreise
