@beaconpostpartum: Last night at 3:28am I was sitting in the nursery holding my baby and trying SO hard not to cry. Not because anything was necessarily wrong. That’s almost the weirdest part. Baby was fed. Clean diaper. Warm. Safe. Finally starting to settle. But I was just…done. 😭 Like that specific postpartum kind of done where you’re so tired your whole body hurts but your brain somehow refuses to shut off. I had already been up multiple times. My husband was asleep. The house was completely silent. And I remember looking around the nursery thinking how strange it is that motherhood can feel this lonely when you literally have another human attached to you 24/7. I love this baby more than anything. But omg. 3am can be DARK. Not just literally 😂 It’s the hour where every little worry suddenly feels enormous. Why isn’t she sleeping longer yet? Did she eat enough? Was that breathing normal? Should I change her again? If I put her down now will she wake up? How am I supposed to function tomorrow? And my personal favorite: “everyone else’s baby probably sleeps better than mine” 🙃 Which is obviously something my exhausted brain completely made up lol. Anyway, I grabbed my phone because I needed to do something besides stare at the wall. I opened the app where moms can light up their little beacon when they’re awake. The map was covered in yellow lights. Moms everywhere. Awake. Right then. And I sent out a hug. I don’t even know why 😂 I think I just wanted someone somewhere to know I was having a hard night. Then my phone showed me that moms had sent hugs back. One was from Ireland. IRELAND. 😭❤️ This woman has absolutely no idea who I am. I don’t know her name. I don’t know what her baby looks like. I don’t know if she was nursing, pumping, making a bottle, rocking a baby, or hiding under the covers trying not to wake anyone 😂 But at 3:28 in the morning she saw another exhausted mom across the world and basically said: “I’m here.” And I cried. Like actual tears. 🥺 Maybe that sounds dramatic but if you’ve been in the newborn trenches you probably get it. I didn’t need advice. I didn’t need someone telling me to enjoy every second because “it goes so fast.” I definitely didn’t need another article explaining wake windows 😂 I just needed to know I wasn’t the only mom awake. That somewhere else there was another woman with messy hair, sore boobs, spit-up on her shirt, one eye half open, doing the exact same thing I was doing. And apparently there were HUNDREDS of us. Those little lights on the map started feeling different after that. Every dot is somebody’s night. One mom is washing pump parts for what feels like the 900th time. One is warming a bottle. One is pacing the hallway. One finally got her baby down and is now too scared to move 😂 One is Googling something she absolutely should NOT be Googling at 3am. One is crying. One is laughing at TikToks trying to stay awake. One is probably thinking, “how is it only 3:41???” 😭 Different houses. Different states. Different countries. Same night shift. That’s the part of postpartum I wish somebody had explained to me before I had a baby. You can be deeply loved and still feel lonely. You can have a supportive partner and still feel alone at night. You can be unbelievably grateful for your baby and still desperately want someone to understand how hard this is. Those things don’t cancel each other out. ❤️ Last night nothing magically changed. My baby still woke up again 😂 I was still exhausted this morning. My coffee was reheated approximately 47 times. But for that little moment at 3:28am, my nursery didn’t feel quite so isolated. Some mom in Ireland was awake too. So were moms in North Carolina and New Jersey. Little lights all over the map saying the same thing: you’re not doing tonight by yourself. 🥹💛 And idk. Sometimes that’s all you need to make it until morning. ❤️ #mom #baby #MomsofTikTok #momtok #momlife
